The importance of a good night’s sleep cannot be overstated. Getting the sleep we need leaves us energetic and rejuvenated. When you sleep well you’re more productive and your memory improves. Incidentally as we age, both sleep and memory start to worsen…
‘White Noise’ has long been all the rage. Through a mix of sounds emitted by state-of-the-art devices, creators claim it helps people sleep better and have better memory retention. But it now seems that ‘Pink Noise’ does what ‘White Noise’ is capable of and more.
In Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, a new study was unveiled on the innovation of sleep technology. According to this study, Pink Noise provides an effective tool for adults to sleep and recall memories better. Pink Noise is a combination of high and low frequency sounds, and researchers claim this is more effective than its counterpart, White Noise. This breakthrough research was first tested on young adults with a high success rate; the results showed that the test group slept much better and their memory improved remarkably.
The author of the book and the brain behind this cutting edge technology, Professor of Neurology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, Dr. Phyllis Zee had confidence in the potential of this innovation. The next step was to test on the elderly, since older people are much more likely to be affected by memory loss.
This much anticipated phase came in the form of 13 adults aged 60 and above for a test period of two nights. On the first night, this group went to sleep without any sleeping aid and upon waking was given a memory test. On the second night, each test subject was equipped to listen to Pink Noise. The same test was administered in the morning after a period of rest. Their memory recall rate this time had tripled compared to the previous night.
Of course, this isn’t the only thing that affects how you sleep and therefore your memory recall in the morning. Sleeping in a cool, quiet environment has long been known to be beneficial. We can help make you achieve a comforting environment by making your bedroom soundproof with soundproofing for walls, soundproofing for floors and soundproofing for ceilings. Studies are showing Pink Noise may show promise; we know soundproofing does.
